First United Nations Network on Migration Multi-Actor Dialogue Concludes
The agencies, funds and programmes that are part of the United Nations Network on Migration (UNNM) in Panama carried out on Tuesday, 16 January, 2024, the First Multi-Actor Dialogue on the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM).
The dialogue focused on the promotion of a positive discourse on migration, the pan-governmental and pan-social nature of the GCM, the identification opportunities for collaboration on a comprehensive response to the current situation, considering safe, orderly and dignified migration as a valuable element in the sustainable development of Panama.
Innovative methodologies, tools and initiatives in the thematic areas were presented, followed by an active interaction through questions and answers. During the panel session, the various participating agencies presented actions, programmes or tools related to the implementation of the PMM linked to the RNUM Work Plan 2023-2024 and highlighted the mechanisms available to strengthen the participation of civil society in this joint and collaborative workspace.
The agencies, funds and programmes of the United Nations System that are currently part of the UNNM are the Office of the Resident Coordinator (ORC) of the United Nations System in Panama, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme, UN Women, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
This dialogue provided a valuable opportunity for all actors involved to establish direct contact with each other, explore new ways of exchanging information, and generate initiatives, actions, and commitments that benefit all people. Likewise, the UNNM technical team sought to gather information on synergies and possible areas of collaboration between the initiatives presented.
The United Nations Network on Migration reaffirms its commitment to building a collaborative and sustainable approach to migration management in Panama and calls on Panamanian civil society to accede to the multi-actor dialogue mechanism.
